Visual pattern recognition retrieved in cross-spectral analysis of visual potentials

Summary

It is presented a detailed description of experimental data concerning pattern recognition retrieval in visual potentials of the brain, evoked under a passive atitude, in a group of sixteen normal volunteers, or else when they were required to perform a discrimination task. The influence of attention seems to appear as reduced, although present. All the analyses have been performed in the frequency domain, using Multivariate Discriminant statistics on cross-spectral comparisons. Visual stimuli were computer generated and assumed either a spatial sinusoidal forms or else consisted of white or black thin strips with equal probability density occurring according with a poisson distribution. These results are thought to give further support to the hypothesis about the role of harmonic carriers of information relevant for logical decisions, which were formulated in two preceeding notes.
